However, today it appears Chrome has had an update that changes what types of fields it's looking at to show the default keyboard, because now it switches keyboards for username and password fields. So up until today, that was my problem: only the password fields was switching to the default keyboard, which made it difficult to use 1Password to fill in username. But third party keyboards can't show the password autofill suggestion over top of them like you're describing, only the default keyboard can show that (from what I've seen). 1Password supports the following messages from allowed extensions.
